Homage
Community Guidelines
Effective October 19, 2026
Homage works because people tell the truth about the places they’ve lived. These guidelines keep it honest, useful and safe, for the people writing and the people still living there.
1. The spirit of Homage
A Homage is a letter to whoever lives somewhere next: what it was really like. Good memories and bad ones are both welcome. An honest two-star Homage helps someone just as much as a glowing five-star one.
2. Do
- Write about a place you actually lived, from your own experience.
- Be specific about the place: the light, the noise, the neighbors, the landlord, the kitchen, the walk to the coffee shop.
- Be fair. Say what happened and how it felt to you. “The heat went out every winter” beats “the worst landlord alive.”
- Rate places honestly, and only the ones you know.
3. Don’t
- Expose private information. No full names of private people (neighbors, roommates, exes), phone numbers, emails, or anything that could put someone at risk. Business names, like a property management company, are fine.
- Threaten, harass or spread hate, or go after someone for who they are.
- State things as fact that aren’t true. Opinions are welcome; made-up claims about real people aren’t.
- Write about places you never lived, or post someone else’s story as your own.
- Post spam or ads, or anything sexual, graphically violent or illegal.
- Game the system with fake accounts, coordinated upvotes or ratings, or attempts to farm badges.
4. Landlords, owners and managers
You can name and review the people and companies you rented from, as part of your honest experience living there. Keep it about how they ran the place. Leave out personal attacks, their home address, or details about their private life.
5. Reports and what happens next
See something that breaks these guidelines? Use “Report this Homage” at the bottom of its page. Only we see who reported it.
We don’t take Homages down just because they’re unflattering. A Homage is hidden from the map when it collects enough reports for us to step in, or as soon as we see it exposing someone’s private information. We may also remove anything else that breaks these guidelines or our Terms of Use.
If a Homage is about you or your property, report it, or write to homageusahomage@gmail.com and tell us what’s wrong.
6. If the rules are broken
Depending on how serious it is, we may hide or remove the content, reset ratings or badges, change a username, or suspend or close the account. Repeated or serious breaks lose access for good.
