About Homage

Every place has a story. We just built somewhere to leave them.

Real estate listings will tell you the square footage, the year it was built, whether the kitchen’s been redone. They won’t tell you who used to live there — or what it actually felt like to.

Why Homage exists

When you leave a house, apartment, or dorm, the walls get painted, furniture moved out, and new tenants are ushered in.

Your memories fade.

These memories, fragile and unique, can’t be experienced again, despite people living in the same square footage you were.

You knew which stair creaked.

You cooked your first real meal.

You found your people.

You fell in love.

You fell apart, and rebuilt.

You threw the best party of your life.

and then you left.

From the founder

What if you could leave it all in a time capsule for others to experience?

Homage is the gateway for this. Not only are there millions of stories to share, but the memories of the past may serve the tenants of the future.

Homage is a way for you to know a bit below the surface of the objective details presented when shopping real estate (Zillow, Redfin, Apartments.com). Thanks to the past, you know just a little bit more about your new home before you step into it, and that can make all the difference.

What we believe

A few things we won’t compromise on.

Honesty over comfort

We won't take down a Homage just because it isn't flattering. Homages are meant to be honest — a fair account of what it was really like, good or bad.

Privacy, respected

Anything submitted to verify you actually lived somewhere is used once, then shredded. We're not in the business of holding onto more than we need.

Curiosity is enough

You don't need to be moving to use Homage. Most people won't be. Reading about a place someone else called home is its own reason to look.

Take a look around

Add your place to the map.

Think of a place you can still picture with your eyes closed. Leave a memory there for whoever lives it next.
