The basics
What is Homage?
A map of memories people leave about the places they used to live: houses, apartments, dorm rooms. Find an address and you can read what it was really like to live there, from the people who did. Then leave your own for whoever lives in your old place next.
Does it cost anything?
No. Reading and posting are free. “Pay Homage” means honoring a place you lived, not paying for anything. Homage may show ads in the future to help cover its costs; our Privacy Policy explains how.
Do I need an account?
Not to read, search or explore the map. You need one to write a Homage, upvote, report or block someone. You can leave a quick star rating for a place without an account.
Writing a Homage
What should I write about?
Whatever made the place what it was: the light, the neighbors, the noise, the landlord, the night everything happened. When you start a Homage, “What we’re looking for” has questions to get you going. Write as much or as little as you like. Our Community Guidelines cover what isn’t allowed.
Can I post anonymously?
Yes. Choose to post anonymously and the Homage shows “Anonymous” instead of your username. It won’t appear on your public profile; only you see it on yours. Keep in mind that details in the story itself can still give you away.
Can I write about where I live now?
Yes, but think about your privacy first. Your unit number and rent are optional, and you can leave them out. Never share anyone else’s private details, like a neighbor’s full name or phone number.
How do star ratings work?
Stars rate what it was like to live there overall: the place, the area and the people. A place’s rating blends the stars from its Homages with quick ratings from people who rated it without writing.
What are the badges?
Rewards for going first: the first Homage in your state, your city or on your street, the 2nd to 10th in a city, and the first 250 on Homage. The Pay Homage page shows which are still up for grabs.
Are Homages verified?
Not yet. Every Homage shows “Not verified” for now. A way to confirm that someone really lived at an address is planned. Until then, read each Homage as one person’s experience.
Can I edit or delete a Homage?
Yes, any time, from the Homage’s own page. You can also archive it, which takes it off the map and hides it from everyone else until you bring it back.
Problems and safety
A Homage breaks the rules, or exposes someone’s private information.
Use “Report this Homage” at the bottom of its page (you’ll need to be logged in), or email us the link. Only we see who reported it. A Homage that exposes private information comes down as soon as we see it.
A Homage is about me or my property. Will you take it down?
Not just because it’s unflattering: honest experiences, good and bad, are the point of Homage. We do remove Homages that break our Community Guidelines, like ones that share private information or make things up. Report it, or ask us to take it down; you don’t need an account for that.
How do I stop seeing someone’s posts?
Block them from their profile, or with “Block” at the bottom of one of their Homages. Their Homages and ratings are hidden from you everywhere, and they aren’t told. Unblock them any time from your profile.
Your account
I forgot my password.
On the log in page, choose “Forgot password” and we’ll email you a link to set a new one.
How do I change my username, picture or bio?
Go to your profile and choose “Edit profile.”
How do I delete my account?
Go to your profile, scroll to Account, and choose “Delete my account.” It permanently deletes your account, your Homages, your ratings and upvotes, and your profile. It can’t be undone.
